معرفی
Dr. Arno Pasternak is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany, where he is affiliated with Chair 11: Algorithm Engineering. He is responsible for courses on the didactics of computer science and programming education, primarily aimed at training future secondary-school teachers.
Education
- PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) obtained in 2013 from Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster; dissertation title: "Fach- und bildungswissenschaftliche Grundlagen für den Informatikunterricht in der Sekundarstufe I" (Subject-matter and Educational Foundations for Computer-Science Instruction at Lower-Secondary Level).
Research Interests
Dr. Pasternak’s research focuses on computer-science education, didactics of informatics, and empirical evaluation of teaching concepts. He designs and evaluates long-term, context-oriented curricula for secondary schools, investigates the role of programming and physical computing in early CS education, and contributes to the development of national educational standards for informatics in Germany.
Publication Trends
His recent publications (2010-2019) center on braided teaching models, contextualized CS curricula, and competency standards. The work spans both theoretical frameworks and rigorous empirical studies conducted in authentic classroom settings, often involving multi-year longitudinal data from grades 6-10.
Scientific Contributions & Service
- Co-author of the official "Bildungsstandards Informatik für die Sekundarstufe II" (Educational Standards for Informatics in Upper-Secondary Education) issued by the German Informatics Society (GI).
- Member of the editorial board for INFOS 2019 conference proceedings (Lecture Notes in Informatics Vol. P288).
- Panelist at international venues such as SIGCSE and FIE on implementing CS curricula in secondary education.
Teaching & Advising
Dr. Pasternak regularly teaches Didaktik der Informatik, Programmiersprachen, Physical Computing, and accompanying seminars for teacher trainees’ practical semesters. While individual student names are not disclosed, he supervises numerous bachelor, master, and practical-semester projects focused on CS education.
Labs & Teams
He is an integral member of Chair 11’s Algorithmic Foundations and Education in Computer Science research group led by Prof. Dr. Johannes Fischer, contributing to the intersection of algorithmics and CS education.
