Anthony Vernon is a Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology at King's College London, affiliated with the School of Neuroscience and Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience. He holds dual titles as Reader in Neuropsychopharmacology and Training co-ordinator for the UKRI MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders. His research focuses on understanding psychotropic drug impacts on mental health (Theme 1) and aligning clinical observations with experimental models (Theme 2), with a strong emphasis on glial cells, neuroinflammation, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Vernon leads the Vernon Lab, employing rodent models and human iPSC-derived cells, utilizing techniques like MRI, CLARITY histopathology, and omics approaches.
Education: PhD in Neuroscience from Imperial College London (2007) and BSc in Neuroscience (2002).
Recent Projects include NEURO_MIA (BBSRC-funded, 2024-2027) exploring maternal immune activation mechanisms and HappyMums (TSB-funded, 2022-2026) addressing perinatal depression. Collaborators include Professors Deepak Srivastava, Jason Lerch, and Urs Meyer.
Publications emphasize neuroinflammation in psychiatric disorders, antipsychotic drug mechanisms, and iPSC modeling of neurodevelopmental conditions. His work contributes to UN SDGs related to mental health and neurological disease prevention.
