Celso Arango

Celso Arango serves as Full Professor of Psychiatry at Complutense University of Madrid and Director of the Gregorio Marañón Psychiatric and Mental Health Institute, with adjunct appointments at UCSF, University of Maryland, and King's College London.

Education: Medical degree (1992) from University of Oviedo/Manchester University; PhD in Psychiatry (1997) from Complutense University.

Research Focus: Pioneering work on neurobiology of early-onset psychoses and neurodevelopmental psychopharmacology, leading one of the world's largest pediatric first-episode psychosis cohorts (450+ patients). Developed the evidence-based PIENSA early intervention program implemented globally, and influenced FDA/EMA regulatory policies for pediatric psychotropic drugs through landmark studies on antipsychotic side effects.

Scientific Recognition: Elected to US National Academy of Medicine (2023) and Spanish Royal Academy of Medicine (2022), recipient of the Margarita Salas Award (2023), and consistently ranked among Spain's top psychiatrists (2014-2024).
