Anthony Wynshaw-Boris, MD, PhD, is a Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, holding positions in the Departments of Genetics and Genome Sciences, Neurosciences, Pediatrics, and Pathology. He also serves as a member of the Cancer Genomics and Epigenomics Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research focuses on neurogenetic disorders, utilizing mouse and iPSC models to study mechanisms underlying conditions like autism spectrum disorder (ASD), lissencephaly, and brain overgrowth. He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles and trained over 40 students/postdocs.
Education: MD/PhD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (1994). Postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and NIH. Career highlights include leadership roles at UCSD, UCSF, and as Chair of Genetics and Genome Sciences at Case Western Reserve (2013–2023).
Research interests include ASD pathophysiology, iPSC modeling of neuropsychiatric disorders, and chromosome therapy for genetic defects. Collaborations involve HIV latency studies in brain organoids and opioid/drug abuse mechanisms. Awards include membership in prestigious societies (ASP, AAP, AAAS) and ASHG presidency (2020).
Key publications include work on LIS1's role in neuronal migration (Nature Genetics, 1998; Cell, 2008), Dvl1's role in social behavior (Cell, 1997), and iPSC-based chromosome therapy (Nature, 2014). Current projects use cerebral organoids to model ASD and explore neurodevelopmental pathways.
