Anthony Thompson is a Professor and Area Coordinator of Photography at Grand Valley State University's Department of Visual & Media Arts. He holds an M.F.A. in Photography from Washington University in Saint Louis and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Dallas. His research explores photographic theory, the intersection of art and science, and documentary projects addressing Cold War legacies, such as Incendiary Iconography (focused on Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant) and Reverse Alchemy (questioning contemporary societal transformations). He previously served as Director of the School of Communications (2008-2015).
Thompson's work combines traditional and digital methods, with notable projects including documentation of the Berlin Wall's fall in 1989 and the environmental impacts of military sites like the Badger Army Ammunition Plant. His photographs are exhibited internationally, including in the Midwest Photographer's Project Collection at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.
