Regan Golden-McNerney is a Professor at Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) and holds an adjunct faculty role at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She holds an MFA in Painting & Drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a BA in American History & Studio Art from Grinnell College. Her practice focuses on ecological change in American landscapes, merging photography, drawing, and mixed media to document vanishing edgelands.
Key exhibitions include solo shows at The Painting Center (NY), Gallery 44 (Toronto), and the Rochester Art Center. Her work is in collections like the Walker Art Center and the Midwest Photographers Collection. Awards include grants from the National Science Foundation, Jerome Foundation, and Joan Mitchell Foundation. She was an Artist-in-Residence at the University of Minnesota’s College of Biological Sciences Conservatory (2017).
Her research emphasizes liminal landscapes—forests and prairies at the margins of urban development. Techniques include high-resolution scans combined with painterly interventions, creating works that blend documentation and subjective experience. Recent projects include Green Screen (2025) and contributions to Seeing Plants: Vision and Botany in Contemporary Art (Walker Art Center).
Grants and fellowships have supported her exploration of ecological themes, including a NSF-funded residency and a Core Program Fellowship at the MFA Houston. She actively publishes and lectures on landscape perception, bridging art and environmental science.
