Professor Anthony Redmond is a Professor of Clinical Biomechanics at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, Faculty of Medicine and Health. He is based at Chapel Allerton Hospital and leads a multidisciplinary research team of approximately 20 members, spanning clinical and non-clinical backgrounds. His work is centered within the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine and the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre.
His research focuses on the interaction between mechanics and biology in musculoskeletal conditions, particularly in the foot, ankle, hip, and spine. He employs advanced technologies such as multibody computational modeling, internal imaging, patient-reported outcomes, and tissue characterization. He founded the FASTER foot and ankle programme and co-leads the Joint Replacement Technologies group, contributing to innovations in joint replacement. His work is internationally recognized, with over 110 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to leading textbooks in rheumatology.
Professor Redmond holds leadership roles nationally and internationally, including chairing the NIHR ICA panel for Clinical and Senior Clinical Lectureships. He has contributed to NICE guidelines, the RCGP training curriculum, and served as past chair of ARMA and the EULAR health professionals’ standing committee.

He supervises postgraduate researchers and welcomes PhD enquiries. His team collaborates with surgeons, radiologists, allied health professionals, and engineers. He is also involved in the EU-funded Lifelong Joints project, aiming to improve long-term joint health.
