Anthony Adornato is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Broadcast and Digital Journalism at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. His research focuses on social media's role in journalism, including policies, user-generated content, and fake news. He previously taught at Ithaca College and as an adjunct at Utica College and the Newhouse School. Adornato holds a B.S. from the Newhouse School (1999) and an M.A. from the University of Missouri (Journalism). Fluent in Italian, he also teaches as a visiting scholar at IULM University in Milan. Key achievements include his 2020 Fulbright Scholar award and co-authoring Mobile and Social Media Journalism (2021, 2nd ed.). His work addresses mobile-first newsroom strategies, social media ethics, and audience engagement. He frequently speaks on fake news for media outlets like the BBC and Associated Press.
His scholarship spans 20 years, blending theoretical frameworks with practical journalism skills. Recent articles analyze evolving social media policies in newsrooms and legal challenges in digital journalism. Adornato’s teaching emphasizes multimedia storytelling and industry-relevant training, reflected in his course development and textbook contributions.
