Annie Heiderscheit is a Professor of Music Therapy and Director of the Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research at Anglia Ruskin University. Her research focuses on music-based interventions in critical care, mental health, and chronic illness settings, driven by her clinical expertise in eating disorders, substance use disorders, and trauma-informed care.

Her work emphasizes patient-directed music listening, guided imagery and music (GIM) for addiction treatment, and music therapy education reform. She has collaborated on NIH-funded studies to reduce delirium in ICU patients and developed curricula for music therapy programs at Augsburg University. Her recent publications explore clinical decision-making, arts-based research, and interdisciplinary applications of music therapy.
She has received significant research grants, including $1.95M from the NIH for the DDM study, and serves on editorial boards for journals like Music Therapy Perspectives and Journal of Supportive Cancer Care. As a Fellow of the Association of Music and Imagery, she trains in the Bonny Method and HealthRhythms®.
