Dr. Julie Stordahl is an Associate Professor of Music Therapy at Charleston Southern University. She joined the faculty in 2010 and specializes in applying music therapy techniques to address diverse clinical populations.
- Bachelor of Music in Music Education from University of Wisconsin-Madison
- Master of Music (and Equivalency) in Music Therapy from University of Iowa
- Doctorate in Music Education with emphasis in Music Therapy from University of Miami
Her research focuses on:
- Music therapy interventions for individuals with severe/advanced dementia
- Treatment approaches for substance use disorders
- Using music and imagery techniques to reduce tension and improve musical expression
- Application of the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music
- Improving mood and affect in clinical populations
- Benefit-finding mechanisms in health contexts
Dr. Stordahl also serves as music director at her local church.
