Annette Sorensen

Annette Sorensen is a Teaching Fellow in Pharmacology and Biochemistry at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS), serving as Director of the international Biochemistry and Pharmacology (Honours) programme with China Pharmaceutical University (CPU). She coordinates academic activities for 64-96 students annually, focusing on curriculum development and student support.

Her research emphasizes public health education, cancer prevention, and HPV-associated cancers through collaborations with Public Health Scotland and NHS Lanarkshire. She pioneered the use of chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) models as ethical alternatives to rodent models in teaching.

Awards include the 2013 Travel Award and Dragons den event wins (2011/2012). She actively engages in outreach initiatives like the PCR for Schools programme, promoting molecular biology education in secondary schools.

She co-leads projects such as the 'Development of a novel treatment for therapy-resistant triple negative breast cancer' and organizes events like the Glasgow Science Festival 2025. Her work aligns with UN SDGs related to health and education.
