Dr. Panagiotis Kaklis is a Professor and Reader in Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde's Faculty of Engineering. His research focuses on computational geometry, ship design optimization, and generative AI models for engineering applications. He leads projects in shape optimization using advanced numerical methods like Isogeometric Analysis and GANs.
Research Interests include naval architecture systems, generative design, and computational methods for marine and aerospace engineering. Key areas are shape-preserving algorithms, Bayesian optimization in high-dimensional spaces, and parametric modeling of ship hulls.
Notable achievements include the 2006 Best Paper Award at the ACM Symposium on Solid and Physical Modeling. He has led over 7 projects as Principal Investigator, including 'Ship Design using Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks' and 'GRAPES: Learning, Processing and Optimising Shapes.'
