Annemieke van Straten

Annemieke van Straten is a Full Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, leading the Clinical Psychology section within the Department of Clinical, Neuro and Developmental Psychology. Her research focuses on reducing disease burden from common mental disorders like insomnia and depression through accessible e-health interventions. She has published over 230 peer-reviewed articles and led numerous randomized controlled trials evaluating treatment efficacy and implementation.

She serves as editor of Clinical Psychology Review and holds roles in organizations like the International Society for Research on Internet Interventions (ISRII) and the European Sleep Research Society. Her work emphasizes scalable, low-intensity mental health solutions delivered via digital platforms, with recent studies on cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) in cancer survivors and exergaming interventions for dementia patients.

Key collaborations include the iSPIN initiative for rare disease interventions and studies on sleep’s role in borderline personality disorder. Her research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly mental health promotion (SDG 3) and universal education (SDG 4).
