Alix Mellor is a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychology at Monash University's Turner Institute for Brain & Mental Health. She completed her PhD (2014) at the University of Western Australia, focusing on sleep-cognition links in older adults with depression, and concurrently worked as a part-time Sleep Scientist at WASDRI. Since 2016, she has held postdoctoral positions at Monash, including Project Manager for the NHMRC-funded 'Project REST' (2016–2020), investigating partner-assisted interventions for insomnia. Her current research explores insomnia and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alongside completing a part-time Master of Psychology.
Her expertise spans insomnia mechanisms, aging-related sleep disorders, and clinical trial methodologies. Key research interests include cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), adherence assessment, and the role of circadian rhythms in mental health. Recent work examines REM sleep's impact on fear inhibition and the bidirectional effects of bed-sharing on sleep patterns.
Her publications analyze CBT-I adherence predictors, environmental factors influencing sleep therapy, and randomized controlled trial outcomes. Projects emphasize translating evidence-based interventions into clinical practice while addressing insomnia's societal impact through UN SDGs.
