Dr. Ivan Vargas is an Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame, specializing in clinical psychology with a focus on sleep and mental health. He leads the Sleep and Health Research Lab, investigating biopsychosocial factors linking depression and insomnia. Education:
- Ph.D., University of Michigan (2016)
- Post-Doctoral Fellowship, University of Pennsylvania (2016–2019)
Research Interests: Dr. Vargas examines insomnia’s clinical and physiological pathways, including how sleep reactivity, stress, and health disparities influence mental health outcomes. His studies address insomnia’s bidirectional relationships with anxiety, depression, and physical health conditions like hypertension. He also develops and tests scalable interventions (e.g., mobile apps, peer mentoring programs) to improve access to CBT-I and sleep education.
Labs & Teams: His lab focuses on translational research bridging basic science and clinical practice, with ongoing projects exploring post-pandemic sleep patterns, insomnia identity, and health equity in sleep treatment.
