Professor Anne-marie Greene holds the Chair in Work and Diversity at the University of York’s School for Business and Society. She is a Fellow of the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) and Co-Convenor of the Gender and Employment Study Group at ILERA. Her research focuses on equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), particularly in non-traditional work contexts such as volunteer management, arts organizations, and criminal justice sectors. She has held academic leadership roles, including Associate Dean for Research at the University of Leicester.
Greene holds a PhD from the University of Wolverhampton, an MA in Industrial Relations (Warwick, ESRC-funded), and a BA in Modern History from the University of Oxford (Brasenose College). Her career includes teaching and research roles at multiple UK universities, including Coventry, Warwick, and Leicester.
Her research explores intersections of work, family, and community, with projects like the AHRC-funded Local Theatres: Participation, Inclusion, Imagination (2024–2026) and Clean Break Theatre Company (2019–2023). She co-authored the seminal textbook The Dynamics of Managing Diversity and has advised organizations like the National Trust and England Netball through toolkits like Working with Emotions in Volunteering.
Greene’s grants total over £1 million, addressing topics like VCSE workforce sustainability and EDI in football via the Kick It Out collaboration. She supervises doctoral students exploring gender, disability, and labor in diverse sectors.
