Anne Vial-Logeay is a Lecturer at the University of Rouen Normandy, affiliated with the UFR Letters and Human Sciences. She is a former student of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) and holds an Agrégation in Classical Letters. She earned her Doctorate in Latin Studies from the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne, focusing on the reception of Latin tragedy from the Roman Republic to the Augustan era. She has served as President of the jury for Sciences-Po Le Havre’s Europe-Asia campus and as a member of the admissions jury at Sciences-Po Paris. She co-created the “Humanities and Contemporary World” and “Classical and Contemporary Humanities” degrees at the University of Rouen.
Her research focuses on Latin literature, the history of ideas, antiquity, and encyclopedism, with a specialization in Pliny the Elder and Roman political and cultural history. Notable works include analyses of Pliny’s Natural History, Cicero’s topography of Rome, and studies on Roman citizenship and emotions. She has presented at international conferences on topics ranging from Roman Gaul to the Mediterranean’s cultural history. Her contributions extend to editorial roles, including the journal Essais de philosophie pénale et criminelle and the Diotima journal, and she has held significant roles in academic governance, including HCERES and AERES committee presidencies.
Her publications span peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes, addressing themes like Roman identity, ancient penal philosophy, and the intersection of literature and history. She actively participates in interdisciplinary research networks, including the Rouen School of Phenomenology and collaborative initiatives on ancient texts and digital humanities.
