Dr. Maria-Ruth Morello is a Senior Lecturer in Classics (Latin) at the Department of Classics and Ancient History, University of Manchester. Her research focuses on ancient letters and Latin historiography, with particular emphasis on Roman literature, epistolography, and cultural dynamics of the Late Republic and Early Empire. She co-edits works on Pliny the Younger and collaborates on projects analyzing Cicero's letters and Livy's narratives.
Her recent publications explore themes such as epistolarity and emotional expression, fictional elements in Cicero's correspondence, and the interplay between tradition and innovation in Roman political writing. She has supervised six PhD students on topics ranging from Lucan to Augustan poetry.
Morello actively participates in academic events, including organizing conferences like 'Philosophical Letters' (2018). Her work bridges literary analysis with historical context, emphasizing the social and rhetorical dimensions of ancient texts.
