Anne-Lise PESTEL is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Rouen, specializing in Roman history with a focus on religious practices, territorial organization, and cultural identity in Roman Italy and the Alps. Her research integrates archaeological and historical methodologies to explore Romanization processes and sacred spaces.
Education: Graduate in History (2008), Doctor of History (2018). Doctoral thesis: Evolution of the territory and places of worship in western Cisalpine Gaul and in the Alpine valleys (2nd century BC – 3rd century AD): the role of sanctuaries in the organization of a Roman region (University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).
Teaching includes undergraduate courses on Roman urban development, methodological approaches to Roman history, and graduate preparation for competitive exams on religion and power in the Roman world.
Research focuses on Roman Alpine regions, religious institutions, and the interplay between sacred sites and political structures.
