Anne Swartz is a Professor of Art History at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 1994, with concurrent roles in eLearning since 2004. She has held leadership positions including Dean of Academic Research and Faculty Development (2000–01), Dean of the School of Fine Arts (1997–2000), and Chair of the Department of Art History (1995–97). Her academic career spans curatorial work, Fulbright scholarships, and visiting roles at institutions like Rutgers University and Kyoritsu Women’s University in Japan. Swartz holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Case Western Reserve University, an M.A. from Vanderbilt University, and a B.A. in Fine Art from Sewanee: The University of the South.
Her research focuses on feminist art practices, digital art history, and the Pattern and Decoration movement. Key themes include gender in contemporary art, curatorial methodologies, and intersections of technology with feminist critique. Notable recognitions include SCAD’s Presidential Fellow award (2002, 2013) and inclusion on the Fulbright Senior Specialists Roster (2004–09, 2013–17). Swartz actively contributes to professional organizations like ArtTable and the College Art Association.
Her publications explore topics such as performance art, environmental activism in art, and marginalized curatorial practices. Recent work emphasizes digital platforms in art history and the legacy of feminist movements in contemporary exhibitions.
