Madison Treece is a Professor of Art History at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA, since Fall 2023. She holds dual M.A. degrees in Art History and Museum Studies from Tufts University and Visual Studies from UC Santa Cruz, alongside a B.A. in Art History from UC Santa Barbara.
Her research focuses on Chicana/Latinx visual culture, border studies, and contemporary curatorial practices. Notable projects include analyzing migrant movements in U.S.-Mexico border art and examining Maya cosmologies in Zapatista-inspired works. She has curated exhibitions such as Encircling the World and Snapshots: 15 Takes on an Exhibition, emphasizing marginalized narratives in art.
- Awards: UCSC Dissertation Year Fellowship (2023), Regent's Fellowship (2016–17), Contemporary Art Curatorial Fellowship (2015–16).
- Professional Roles: Archivist for Amalia Mesa-Baines’ collection (2018–23), Assistant Curator at Santa Cruz Museum of Modern Art (2022), and Curatorial Fellow at MassArt’s Bakalar & Paine Galleries.
Treece’s teaching spans UCSC and Tufts, where she has lectured on topics like Chicano Movement art, feminist performance, and Zapatista resistance aesthetics. Her work bridges academic research with community-based curatorial practice, advocating for decolonized art histories.
