Dr. Anne Spillane is an Associate Professor of Special Education at the School of Education (SOE), University of Massachusetts Global, where she has been a full-time faculty member since 2012. She holds a Ph.D. in Intellectual Disabilities and Autism from Columbia University (2006), an M.A. in Education from the University of California at Santa Barbara (1991), and a B.A. in Elementary Education from Simmons College (1987). Her research focuses on inclusive education practices for students with severe disabilities, abuse prevention strategies, and effective teaching methodologies for individuals with moderate to severe disabilities.
Before her academic career, Dr. Spillane taught students with severe disabilities in public and private schools for over a decade. She has presented at conferences such as the International Conference on Autism, Intellectual Disability & Developmental Disabilities (2016) and served as a School Lead for Project Cornerstone (2015). Her professional roles include membership in the Board of Institutional Reviewers, CCTC (2013).
Dr. Spillane’s expertise spans special education policy, curriculum development, and teacher training. She has contributed to credential programs for educators working with students requiring extensive support needs.
