Anne Ruuskanen is a Lecturer in the Practical Nursing program at Vancouver Island University (VIU), where she began teaching in January 2020. With over 20 years of nursing experience in Ontario and British Columbia, she brings extensive clinical expertise to her role. She earned her Practical Nursing certificate from St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from VIU, and a Remote Nursing certification from Aurora College in Yellowknife.
Anne’s professional focus spans multiple nursing domains, including Medical/Surgical care, palliative care, home care, and remote healthcare delivery in First Nation communities across BC. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes empowering and inspiring students by sharing practical knowledge and real-world experience.
As a full-time faculty member in the School of Health Sciences and Human Services, Anne integrates her clinical background into nursing education while advocating for community-centered healthcare practices.
