Anne Mackie serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education within the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. She joined UBC in 2020 following a 24-year career as a Chemistry Teacher with the Vancouver School Board.
She is currently completing her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Learning Sciences at UBC, with research centered on metacognition in teacher candidates. Her doctoral work investigates how reflective practices can be systematically integrated into teacher training programs to enhance classroom effectiveness and student engagement.
Her scholarly focus spans teacher education methodologies, metacognitive strategy development, and innovative assessment practices in K-12 settings. She actively contributes to International Baccalaureate program development through teacher workshops and school evaluations across North America, emphasizing inquiry-based learning frameworks and culturally responsive pedagogy.
At UBC, she teaches EPSE 308: Development, Learning and Culture in the Classroom and EPSE 310: Assessment and Learning in the Classroom. As a Faculty Advisor for teacher candidates, she provides mentorship on classroom management and curriculum design. Through the International Baccalaureate Educator Network, she conducts professional development workshops for educators and performs comprehensive evaluations of IB World Schools, influencing pedagogical standards internationally.
