Anne Gisleson is an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Orleans (UNO), where she teaches in the MFA Creative Writing program, and concurrently instructs at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). She co-founded Antenna, a New Orleans-based literary and visual arts non-profit organization. Her work bridges academia, community arts, and authorship, with a focus on post-disaster narratives and personal memoir.
Her research explores:
- Creative nonfiction and memoir writing
- Existential philosophy in literature
- Narratives of grief and resilience
- Post-Katrina cultural rebuilding in New Orleans
- Intersections of literature and visual arts
Her acclaimed book The Futilitarians (2017) examines existential crises through a literary lens, weaving themes of loss, philosophy, and community. It was named a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of the Year.
Gisleson has published extensively in The Atlantic, Smithsonian Magazine, Los Angeles Times, and anthologies like Best American Nonrequired Reading. She is working on Louisiana Iris for LSU Press.
