Marline Otte is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Tulane University's School of Liberal Arts, specializing in modern European history with emphasis on German cultural history. Her scholarship examines German popular entertainment, Jewish identities, and post-disaster community responses through both written and visual media.
Her monograph Jewish Identities in German Popular Entertainment, 1890-1933 (Cambridge University Press, 2006) analyzes Jewish contributions to German cultural production. She co-directed the documentary The Sunken City: Rebuilding Post-Katrina New Orleans (2008), which chronicles recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina and explores themes of citizenship and community resilience.
Research interests intersect cultural history, memory studies, and public history methodologies. Her work addresses how historical narratives inform contemporary discourses on civil rights and state responsibility.
