Dr Annabel Masson is the Head of Subject for Allied Health at Newman University's School of Nursing and Allied Health, leading Physiotherapy pre-registration programmes and new Allied Health initiatives. She holds dual qualifications in Physiotherapy (BSc Hons, University of Birmingham) and Work Design & Ergonomics (MSc, University of Birmingham), with a PhD from Loughborough University (2017) focused on musculoskeletal rehabilitation and occupational health. Her academic journey includes roles as Lecturer, Programme Lead, and Senior Lecturer at other universities before joining Newman in 2022.
Her research interests center on workplace health, allied health professionals' roles in health promotion, precision rehabilitation for spinal pain, and capturing lived experiences. Methodologically, she employs mixed approaches to produce actionable outputs. She actively supervises student research and is a member of the University's Research Ethics Committee.
Teaching focuses on interprofessional education and collaboration with practice partners to enhance student experiences across Allied Health and Nursing modules. Administrative responsibilities include overseeing Allied Health programme development and ethics governance.
Professional memberships include the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), and Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF).
Her publications span lumbar surgery patient journeys and ergonomic design for plus-size workers, emphasizing qualitative and anthropometric methodologies. Research emphasizes translating findings into clinical and workplace practices.
