Poppy Downing is a part-time Lecturer in Neurological Physiotherapy at Keele University, where she also completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees (2002 and 2011, respectively). She maintains a dual role as an Advanced Neurological Physiotherapist in private practice while contributing to academic teaching. Her research focuses on neuromuscular electrical stimulation, stroke rehabilitation, major trauma recovery, and functional neurological disorders.
Professional affiliations include membership in the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and active participation in the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Interested in Neurology (ACPIN).
Her recent work includes a 2022 systematic review on somatosensory stimulation’s impact on post-stroke gait and balance, reflecting her commitment to advancing neurological rehabilitation practices.
Poppy’s career spans over two decades, beginning at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust and later specializing in neurological rehabilitation at the Haywood Hospital until 2020. She balances academic responsibilities with clinical expertise, contributing to both patient care and educational innovation in allied health professions.
