Prof. Dr. Anna Petrig is a former Assistant Professor of Public Law and International Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Basel. Her work focuses on maritime safety and security, counter-piracy operations, and the legal frameworks governing private security companies. She co-founded and co-edits the Maritime Safety and Security Law Journal, a peer-reviewed publication addressing timely legal issues in maritime domains.
Her research interests include the intersection of human rights and law enforcement at sea, the legal implications of private military and security contractors, and extraterritorial jurisdiction in criminal law. She has authored and co-authored influential monographs and articles on piracy, counter-piracy strategies, and the application of international law in maritime contexts.
Prof. Petrig has presented widely at international conferences and workshops, including engagements with the United Nations Human Rights Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and MARSAFENET (COST Action IS1105). Her contributions span doctrinal analyses, case law commentaries, and legislative reform proposals aimed at enhancing maritime security while upholding legal and human rights standards.
