Anna Nivestam is a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences at Kristianstad University, affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Department of Nursing Education and Integrated Health Sciences. She is actively involved with several research centers including the Center for Food Health and Retail at Kristianstad University (FOHRK), Patient Reported Outcomes - Clinical Assessment Research and Education (PROCARE), and The Health in Collaboration research platform.
Dr. Nivestam's research focuses on health promotion and preventive home visits to older people, exploring how health can be promoted at both individual and societal levels. Her work examines the utilization of information gathered during home visits to create societies that promote healthy aging, sensor-based fall risk screening during home visits, and the importance of playfulness for health and well-being in older adults. She is particularly interested in how older people's perspectives can inform health policy and community planning for aging populations.
Her research portfolio demonstrates a strong commitment to translating academic findings into practical applications that benefit elderly care. Nivestam has received significant recognition for her work, including a SEK 200,000 scholarship from the Sten K Johnson Foundation in 2025 to continue her project on utilizing preventive home visits at a societal level. She has also secured funding from Lindhés Advokatbyrå and the Research Platform for Health in Collaboration to explore how information from preventive home visits can be used across different sectors of society.
Dr. Nivestam actively mentors the next generation of researchers, currently serving as assistant supervisor for doctoral students Madelene Törnblom (working on sensor-based fall risk screening) and Anna Bergman (investigating playfulness and health in older people). She also coordinates the specialist nursing program focusing on care of the elderly, which is a collaborative effort between multiple Swedish universities.
As an academic leader, Nivestam serves on the nomination committee for the Swedish Gerontological Society and has previously been a board member of the Swedish Association of Nurses in Elderly and Dementia Care. She was also editor-in-chief of the professional journal "Ä" for nurses in elderly and dementia care.
