Anna Kiefte is the Department Head and Instructor II in the Department of Physics at Acadia University. She holds leadership roles including Chair of the Senate of Acadia University (2016-present), Chair of the Faculty Council (2012-2013, 2014-2016, 2021-2023), and has been teaching since 2004. She earned a B.Sc.H from Memorial University and pursued M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies at the University of Toronto.
Her professional interests focus on teaching, academic advising, physics education, science outreach, literacy/numeracy, and private tutoring. She coordinates initiatives like Physics Olympics and participates in organizations such as Techsploration and Let’s Talk Science. She is also a long-term volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross (2005-2023), serving in roles like Team Leader and Senior Facilitator.
Anna has received multiple awards recognizing her teaching excellence and service, including the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2023) and repeated teaching accolades from Acadia Students’ Union. She has taught at Acadia University since 2006, Dalhousie University, and the College of the North Atlantic, covering physics, astronomy, and mathematics.
Her contributions extend to cultural roles, such as Vice-Chair of the Acadia Performing Arts Series (2012-2022).
