Anna-Karin Welmer is Senior Lecturer and Docent in Physiotherapy at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Karolinska Institutet. She is also a physiotherapist at Karolinska University Hospital, with a PhD in Physiotherapy (KI, 2007) and Docent (KI, 2014).

Her research focuses on health in older adults, emphasizing physical function, physical activity, sedentary behavior, and injurious falls. She combines clinical studies (interventions, qualitative research, implementation science) with population-based analyses to address:
- Determinants and consequences of disability and falls
- Physical exercise intervention efficacy
- Implementation of evidence-based methods
Recent work includes the PREV_FUNC trial on exercise programs for hospitalized elderly and epidemiological studies on sedentary behavior. She leads the Aging and Health research group and chairs KI's Doctoral Education Committee.
