Anna Lindstrand is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet. She serves as Professor and Consultant in Clinical Genetics and Genomics at Karolinska University Hospital, where she directs the Clinical Genetics and Genomics diagnostic laboratory. Her research focuses on structural genomic variation in rare and common diseases, integrating next-generation sequencing with clinical and functional studies.
Her group investigates the biological consequences of chromosomal rearrangements in neurodevelopmental disorders, malformation syndromes, and cancer. They use short-, linked-, and long-read whole genome sequencing (WGS) to characterize structural variants and conduct functional follow-up in patient-derived cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Key projects include computational tool development, hematological malignancy analysis, and cellular modeling of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Recent publications highlight her work in genomics, diagnostic innovation, and translational research. Awards include the 2015 Jeanssons Foundation award and multi-year fellowships from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and Marianne och Marcus Wallenbergs Stiftelse. Current funding sources include the Swedish Research Council, Cancerfonden, and Region Stockholm ALF.
- Awards: Jeanssons Foundation (2015), Riksbankens Jubileumsfond fellowship (2015-2017), Marianne och Marcus Wallenbergs Stiftelse (2015-2017), SSMF:s stora anslag (2015-2018)
