Anna-Karin Andershed is a Professor of Psychology at Örebro University and serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the University Management Team. She has held leadership roles including Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Head of the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Legal Sciences, and Head of the Department of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences since 2006. Her research bridges psychology and criminology, focusing on risk and protective factors in adverse psychosocial development, particularly antisocial behavior in children and adolescents.
Andershed earned her PhD in Psychology from Örebro University in 2001 and became a Docent in 2012 before being appointed Professor in 2015. She leads the Center for Criminological and Psychosocial Research (CAPS) and is a key figure in the IDA program and SOFIA study, both internationally recognized longitudinal projects examining criminal behavior and social adjustment over lifespans. Her work emphasizes practical application, such as developing the ESTER assessment tool to aid professionals in social services, schools, and law enforcement.
Her international collaborations span North America and Europe, with presentations at conferences like the American Society of Criminology and Stockholm Criminology Symposium. She has edited international anthologies and advised Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare on evidence-based guidelines. Professional memberships include the National Health Competence Council, SUHF’s expert group for healthcare education, and board roles at Örebro Universitet Holding AB and Region Örebro Innovation AB.
