Karin Hellfeldt is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Örebro University, affiliated with the School of Behavioural, Social and Legal Sciences and the Department of Behavioral, Social and Legal Sciences. She holds a PhD in Social Work (2016) and serves as the Research Leader of the Victimology group at CAPS - Center for Criminological and Psychosocial Research. She is also the Program Director of the Criminology Program at Örebro University.
Her research focuses on victimology, particularly children and adolescents' experiences of violence, school bullying, poly-victimization, and the impact of parental imprisonment. She examines how social support systems (teachers, peers, parents) mitigate victimization consequences. Her work also addresses fear of crime in older adults and the intersection of criminology with gerontology.
She has published extensively on bullying prevention, developmental trajectories of conduct problems, and the long-term effects of victimization. Her awards include the Örebro Region Collaboration Award (2014) and the 2019 Emerald Literati Award for Outstanding Paper.
Karin teaches criminology and social work courses, emphasizing victimology, crime prevention, and scientific methods. She leads research projects like the '65+ and Safe' study and the 'RESUMÉ' project, investigating safety and violence prevention strategies.
Her research groups include BLIVA (Children's living conditions) and CAPS. She supervises PhD students like Nadezhda Golovchanova and collaborates on community safety initiatives such as the GVI (Group Violence Intervention) program in Örebro.
