Anna Burstedt is a Doctoral Student and Director of Studies at the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences, Lund University, under the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology. She has held the role of Director of Studies since 2020, overseeing undergraduate education and pedagogical development. Her academic work spans multiple divisions, including Ethnology, Fashion Studies, Intermedia Studies, Publishing Studies, ALM, Digital Cultures, History of Ideas, Book History, Art History, and Musicology.
Her research centers on food culture and ethnology, particularly the cultural meanings of dining out and the internationalization of the Swedish restaurant scene in the 20th century. She has contributed extensively to the field through books and book chapters on traditional food, culinary identity, and regional cuisines.
Her recent publications reflect a strong thematic focus on food heritage, culinary trends, and regional food identities, with keywords spanning Cultural Studies, Food Studies, and Ethnology. The subfields include Traditional Food, Food Genealogy, Culinary Hybridization, Regional Food Identity, and Material Culture, indicating a deep engagement with both historical and contemporary food practices.
She was awarded the Måltidsakademiens vinnare i Årets svenska måltidslitteratur in 2018, recognizing her contributions to Swedish food literature.
Anna Burstedt has supervised no listed students but is actively involved in research projects such as Traditioner i Sverige 2.0 and previously led the Food culture and restaurants dissertation project (1997–2011). She has delivered invited talks and contributes to academic discourse through publications and public engagement.
