Dr. Anjalee Cohen is a Senior Lecturer in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Sydney's Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She is an active member of the Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies and the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre. Prior to this role, she held research positions at the University of Sydney's Brain and Mind Centre and UNSW's National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre.
Her research specializes in medical anthropology with a geographical focus on Northern Thailand. Key areas include:
- Community health volunteers and public health systems
- Methamphetamine use among Thai youth
- Youth subcultures and gang violence
- Maternal/child health and social change
- COVID-19 pandemic responses in Thailand
Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on Thai youth identity, substance abuse, and community health systems, with recent work examining healthcare volunteers' roles during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodologically, she employs ethnographic approaches to understand cultural dimensions of public health challenges.

She currently advises four research students on projects covering Vietnamese migrant sustainability, queer identity in Vietnam, refugee memories, and pandemic vaccination attitudes. Her 2023 grant explores rising Caesarean sections in Northern Thailand. She maintains active public engagement through podcasts and international seminars on Thailand's healthcare systems.
