Tamara Loos is a Professor and Chair of the Department of History at Cornell University, affiliated with the Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program and the LGBT Studies Program. Her research focuses on Thailand and Southeast Asia, particularly gender, legal studies, colonial modernity, and political culture. She is the author of Bones around My Neck: The Life and Exile of a Prince Provocateur (2016) and Subject Siam: Family, Law, and Colonial Modernity in Thailand (2006). Her work bridges biography, legal history, and transnational perspectives.
Loos analyzes Thailand’s political transitions, including contemporary youth-led protests demanding democratic reforms and monarchical accountability. She has been featured in The Diplomat, BBC, and NPR for her expertise on Thailand’s sociopolitical dynamics.
