Professor Dr. Anja Steinbeck (born 1966) is the Rector of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf since November 2014, re-elected in 2019 and 2022. She previously held the Chair for Civil Law, Commercial and Corporate Law, and Industrial Property Rights at the University of Cologne (2001-2014), where she also served as Vice-Rector for Planning, Finance, and Gender Equality (2011-2014) and directed the Institute for Industrial Property Protection and Copyright Law.
Her academic credentials include a
- Doctorate (1992) and Habilitation (1999) in Law from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz
- Studies at Mainz and Geneva Universities (First State Examination 1990, Second State Examination 1993)
Steinbeck's research focuses on business law, commercial and corporate law, competition law, and intellectual property rights. She also served as a part-time judge in the 6th Civil Senate (intellectual property issues) at Cologne Higher Regional Court from 2004 to 2014.
