Helga Scholten is an Associate Professor of Ancient History at Ruhr University Bochum since 2017. She holds a PhD from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (1994) and completed her habilitation at Gerhard Mercator University Duisburg (2001). Her research focuses on technical developments in antiquity, labor practices in archaic Greece, and intercultural communication in late Roman society. She has held academic positions across Germany, including acting professorships at the Universities of Cologne, Siegen, and Mainz.

Research Interests:
Her work explores how technological innovations were perceived and utilized in antiquity, analyzing narratives about technology within cultural contexts. She studies labor dynamics in archaic Greece and investigates late Roman political strategies impacting intercultural communication between Christian and pagan communities. Key themes include the relationship between technical systems and societal structures, as well as the role of myth and rhetoric in historical narratives.
