Jan Meister is a Professor in the Department of Ancient History at the Faculty of Humanities, Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. He holds an SNF-Eccellenza Professorship (2019–2024) and leads the project Herrscherkörper in den Monarchien der Spätantike und des frühen Mittelalters. Previously, he held a W3-Professorship for Ancient History (WS 2018/19 and SS 2019) at Tübingen and completed his Habilitation (2018) and Privatdozent appointment at Humboldt-University of Berlin.
- Education: PhD in Ancient History (2010, summa cum laude, University of Basel), Studies in Ancient History, Classical Archaeology, and Medieval General History (University of Basel, 2001–2006).
His research integrates body history, cultural history of politics, and reception of antiquity, with a focus on archaic/early classical Greece, the Late Republic, and Late Antiquity. He co-founded the European Network for the Study of Archaic Greece and contributed to the DFG-funded Transformationen der Antike collaborative research center.

Meister is co-editor of Historia and Körpergeschichten book series, and serves on the advisory board of Studies in Ancient Civil War. His current work examines political body representations in late antique and early medieval monarchies.
