Jan Bernhard Meister is a Professor at the University of Bern, where he holds an SNF Eccellenza Professorship since 2019. After completing his PhD in Ancient History at the University of Basel (2010) and habilitation at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2018), he focuses on historical-anthropological research spanning the Greek Archaic period, late Republican and Imperial Rome, and Late Antiquity.

His research integrates reception history into themes like political culture, social differentiation, and body symbolism. He has published extensively on Roman imperial bodies, Greek aristocracy, and cultural communication mechanisms. Meister co-coordinates the European Network for the Study of Archaic Greece, a successor to a DFG-funded network.
