Jan Stenger is a full professor and chair holder at the Institute of Classical Philology of Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg, Germany. Previously, he served as the Douglas MacDowell Professor of Greek at the University of Glasgow (2012–2020) and held positions at Freie Universität Berlin and Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.
- Education: Staatsexamen in Classical Philology and History (1993–2000, Heidelberg & Tübingen)
- Doctorate: 2003 (summa cum laude, Kiel)
- Habilitation: 2008 (Kiel)
His research focuses on ancient Greek and Latin literature, particularly choral lyric poetry of the 5th century BCE, Late Antique cultural and intellectual history, epistolary practices, and rhetorical traditions. He also contributes to classical education theory and late antique Christian texts.
