Anil Chitrakar serves as Senior Teaching Faculty at the School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad, teaching the Nepal-based program 'Development, Gender, and Social Change in the Himalaya' for many years. A prominent environmental conservationist, he is recognized as a senior Ashoka fellow in Nepal with over two decades of field experience.
His educational background includes engineering training and graduate work in energy planning at the University of Pennsylvania, supplemented by professional roles at Kathmandu municipality and as a senior fellow in residence in Washington, DC.
Chitrakar's research centers on environmental conservation, sustainable development, and renewable energy solutions for rural communities, with significant emphasis on gender dynamics and social transformation in Himalayan contexts. He founded the Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness and currently develops solar lighting systems for Nepalese villages.
His notable recognition includes:
