Nadine Plachta is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Geographic Science at James Madison University's College of Integrated Science & Engineering. She holds a Ph.D. in Global Studies from the University of Bern and M.A./B.A. degrees in Social Anthropology and Religion from Heidelberg University. Her research focuses on citizenship, environmental justice, infrastructure, and geopolitical dynamics in South Asia, particularly Nepal and the Himalayan region. Plachta has served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Colorado Boulder. She currently chairs the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies (ANHS) and edits HIMALAYA and Roadsides.
