Edinburgh Napier Universityمعرفی
Dr. Angus Sutherland serves as an Academic Skills Adviser within the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement at Edinburgh Napier University, with dedicated responsibilities for the School of Arts and Creative Industries. His role encompasses academic integrity oversight and leadership in blended/online learning initiatives.
His educational background includes a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2016-2023) on W. G. Sebald and the emblem tradition, funded by the Scottish International Education Trust alongside teaching positions and agricultural work. He holds an MA in English from Georgetown University and a BA (Hons) in English Literature from Newcastle University.
Sutherland's research centers on transnational literary connections between English, Scottish, and German traditions from the late eighteenth to late twentieth centuries. His current projects examine W. G. Sebald's theological dimensions and James Hogg's agricultural-literary intersections, with particular focus on rural transformation in the Scottish Borders. His scholarship demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between literary studies, visual culture, and historical ecology.
His recent publications reveal consistent engagement with Sebald's visual-textual practices and Hogg's rural narratives, spanning theological analysis, emblem studies, migration theory, and contemporary AI pedagogy. This body of work bridges historical literary scholarship with current educational challenges.
- 2024/5 British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (BSEC) Northumbria Fellow

His work with the Centre for Arts, Media and Culture integrates scholarly research with practical learning development initiatives, particularly regarding academic integrity in the AI era.
