Zachary Garber is a Research Fellow at Merton College and affiliated with the Faculty of English Language & Literature at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on historiography, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British literature, and the intersections between literary form and historical discourse.
His doctoral thesis examined Scottish Romanticism's use of the chronicle form to engage with Enlightenment-era developments and parliamentary reform debates. Current projects include a scholarly edition of John Galt's The Spaewife (1824) for Edinburgh University Press, and a book analyzing the 'historical novel' genre between 1814–32 as a site of political and cultural debate.
His work bridges literary analysis with historical methodologies, emphasizing how authors and readers collaboratively coded national narratives. Professional activities include peer-reviewed publication in English: Journal of the English Association (2022).
