Dr Andrew Frayn is a Lecturer in Twentieth-Century Literature and Culture at Edinburgh Napier University's School of Arts and Creative Industries. He has been Programme Leader for BA(Hons) English (2017–2022) and is currently Associate Editor of First World War Studies. His research focuses on First World War literature, rural modernism, and modernist textual editing. Key projects include a monograph on the War Books Boom (1928–30) and a theoretical framework for 'rural modernism.' He has edited works by H.G. Wells and is contracted to publish Beyond Modernism (Bloomsbury, 2025).
Research Interests: First World War prose, rural modernity, late style in art and literature, noncanonicity, and modernist editing. His work is funded by the Carnegie Trust and Edinburgh Napier University.
Grants & Awards: £11,641 Carnegie Trust grant (2020–2021), Royal Society of Edinburgh Fellowship (2017), and AHRC funding for internment camp studies (2018–2019). Professional roles include Fellowships and editorial board memberships.
Students: Supervises doctoral and master's students on topics ranging from internment camp literature to Indian poetry and translation markets. Recent advisees include Lisa Aref (PhD), Usha Kishore (PhD), and Arin Keeble (Masters).
