Vincent Sherry

Vincent Sherry is Professor of English and Howard Nemerov Professor in the Humanities at Washington University. His research focuses on literary modernism, the First World War's impact on literature, and the legacy of Decadence. He holds a PhD, MA from the University of Toronto and a BA from the University of Notre Dame.

His work bridges historical analysis with theoretical approaches, exploring themes such as aesthetics, gender, and science in modernist contexts. Notable publications include Modernism and the Reinvention of Decadence (2015) and The Great War and the Language of Modernism (2003). He edited the Cambridge History of Modernism (2017), a landmark 1000-page volume.

Current research involves a transnational literary history of the 1914-1918 war under contract with Princeton UP. His courses, such as 'Virginia Woolf: Novelist and Feminist,' integrate feminist theory, historical context, and interdisciplinary approaches to modernist texts.
