Angela L. Stotts

Dr. Angela L. Stotts is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She serves as Director of the Behavioral Health and Addiction Research Program in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and holds cross-appointments in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Center for Clinical Research and Evidence-Based Medicine.

Dr. Stotts' research focuses on:

• Development and evaluation of behavioral treatments for substance use disorders
• Pharmacological interventions for addiction
• Specialized approaches for maternal and child populations
• Interventions to reduce secondhand smoke exposure in vulnerable families

Dr. Stotts has maintained continuous research funding since 2000 and serves as a Co-Investigator on the National Institute on Drug Abuse's Clinical Trials Network for the Texas Node. She has served on NIH study sections and special emphasis panels, contributing to the national research agenda in addiction science, and serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Addiction.

Her notable recognitions include:

• Distinguished Professional Woman Award (2015)

Dr. Stotts is actively involved in mentoring faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, residents, graduate students, and medical students. She is a member of several professional organizations including the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, and the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine.

She directs the Behavioral Health and Addiction Research Program, which provides research opportunities for students and collaborators interested in addiction science and behavioral health interventions for vulnerable populations.
